Embracing the Legacy of our Musical Excellence

A Live Band Led by DJ Always Covering 100+ Years of Black Music

Friday, October 25 at 7:30PM | Saturday, October 26 at 2:30PM & 7:30PM

The Kentucky Center – MeX Theater

**Main Performance**

Always and The Forevers, an all-star band led by DJ Always on Turntables and Percussion, will be the centerpiece of the event. This 5 piece band will take the audience on a musical journey through the lexicon of Black music, starting from the indigenous sounds of African Drums, traversing the Spirituals that provided salvation and motivation, exploring the innovation of jazz, and delving into the revolution of the civil rights movement. The performance will then move through the inventiveness of hip-hop, culminating with the introduction of technology and the importance of the Drum Machine. All these elements will be seamlessly woven together in one captivating and cohesive musical performance.

**Visual Arts Integration**

To enhance the audience's experience, a select group of visual artists will be curated to create visual representations that depict the imagery and importance of each genre, generation, and era of music highlighted in the performance. These artists will contribute to the immersive atmosphere, providing a multi-sensory experience that deepens the connection between the audience and the rich history of Black music.

**Community Impact**

"A Celebration of Black Music" is not just a musical event; it is a celebration of cultural diversity and a platform to promote understanding and appreciation. The event aims to foster community engagement, celebrate Black heritage, and contribute to the cultural enrichment of our community.

This performance is part of the Kentucky Performing Arts ArtsReach MeX Project.  The ArtsReach MeX Project elevates artists and organizations within our community by providing fully underwritten opportunities to produce creative work in The Kentucky Center’s Boyd Martin Experimental Theater (MeX).
